7 T H S H O O T - G R E E D . . .

16th April
MY LAST SHOOT AND IM SO HAPPY!!! Today I am shooting my last sin, Greed and I cant wait. My model is a good friend of mine called Laura and with her sandy blonde hair, I think she will be perfect for this look. For the beauty look I mainly concentrated on created a strong bold yellow on the inner corner of her eyes and I used an ombre technique for the lips using orange then blending into yellow. I wanted to make the skin quite sensual so I used a quite an amount of bronzer to contour her face and her shoulder/collar bones.

The most fun was creating the avant-garde look. For this look I made 2 hair sheets consisting of white and yellow crepe hair, which I straightened and combed out to make it really fine. For the front of Laura’s hair I scrapped it back tightly and clipped in place. Then back combing the hair section by section I then folded the hair over itself bringing it forward to create a roll like shape. This disguised the clips keeping Laura’s hair tight and gave me a good base for me to attach the hair sheet. Once the hair was attached I used my fingers to start fanning out the ends so it wasn’t so solid, I felt like it would look its best if its wasn’t so structured and had more flow to it. For the make-up this was quite an easy and quick look, the only difficulty I had was applying the singular false eyelashes to the bottom of Laura’s eye. This was the first time I used single eyelashes on a model during a shoot so it was quite a challenge to make sure the lash was secure and wouldn’t come off whilst shooting.

6 T H S H O O T - G L U T T O N Y . . .

15th April
2nd to last shoot and I can’t wait for this one. When I started researching into the 7 deadly sins and started developing my ideas into designs, I struggled most with Gluttony, as I didn’t know how I could correctly portray it. Then I thought I am an artist and I shall give it my own spin. For the beauty look I kept it quite basic and really concentrating on the skin to give it a flawless finish, which showed brilliantly on camera. My model Frankie has amazing bone structure so I wanted to really highlight this, which worked well against the dim, warm lighting.  The hair was quite easy, as I wanted to keep the focal point on the skin, I straightened the hair and pulled it over to one side.

For the avant garde look this was quite abit more challeneging as when I started applying the powders and pure pigments to Frankie, as she was sat up in the make-up chair, none o the product was reaching her neck. I didn’t want there to be a massive gap as I knew this wouldn’t look good on camera so I had to ask Frankie to lie on the floor and I scraped the products all over her chest and face. As hilarious as this process was it actually worked and the colours came out really bold and vibrant which is what I wanted.

As Frankie’s hair was straight for the first look, this made it easy for me to start working on the hair for the second look. By sectioning the hair into sections around the head, backcombing each section and assuring that the ends of each section where brushed together, I started using my fingers to manipulate the shape of the hair and started to create a wave effect. Using pins and clips to make sure the hair was firmly in place, I continued this process until the hair was perfect. I then used my straighteners to go along the edge of the hair to make sure I created a sharp, crisp line as I wanted the waves to really stand out. Once I let the hair set with hairspray, I went over the edge of the hair with orange shade paint and this really made the shape POP! Over all I am incredibly pleased with the outcome of these shoots as I was most anxious about this sin.

M O D E L C A N C E L L A T I O N . . .

14th April
So today I scheduled to do my Greed shoot but unfortunately I got a message this morning form my model and she had to cancel. As it is the Easter holiday most of my friends are at home, and the only ones who are still in Southampton are stupidly busy with their own work too. At first I started panicking as I couldn’t find a model but my good friend Frankie said she will model for me on Wednesday – which brings me back a day as I wanted to finish all my shoots tomorrow but instead I have dedicated today to editing my pictures. As on Photoshop it is hard to get the same black, I have found it quite difficult to make sure that all the layers of black and backgrounds are the same so I am going to spend today making I correct all the images ready for placing them on InDesign.

I have learnt from today that unfortunately cancellation is a common thing when shooting, it is unfortunate especially when you are on a tight time schedule but I have learnt to keep calm and to utilise my time in a different productive way.

P R O D U C T I O N S C H E D U L E - U P D A T E

12th April
As I am coming towards to the end of shooting for my book, I wanted to look back on my production schedule to see if I am on track. Due to the delay of shooting I am slightly behind on my original schedule, but when I made the schedule I want entirely sure of my idea. Although I am not on target I am still pleased with my work so far, as I took longer with practising the hair and make-up I feel like this has made me more confident and certain when it came down to my shooting my final looks.

From my schedule, I originally wanted to be at the stage where I was ready to send my book off to print, but unfortunately this hasn’t happened. I am still confident that I will get it all done in time as I have started researching into printers.

I have decided to go with a printing company based outside of Southampton in Eastleigh called Diguru. I asked for a quote for my book to be printed with all the specifications and for one book it would be £145 or for 3, £195. From what iv heard from other printers based in Southampton, Diguru seem the most reasonably priced and they are very formative and quick to respond to emails which is reassuring. They said it would take no longer than a week for my book to be printed, after being told this I feel more confident time wise as I feel I an spend more time editing my pictures and placing it all on InDesign to make sure everything is perfect before I send it off.
